Entry 10: Tamarind Roll With Refreshing Drinks
We had no plans to go out during this break, but I wanted to give my daughters, aged 14 and 10, a new experience as we are still new to McKinney, Texas. They absolutely loved exploring Asian food, experiencing the richness of different cultures, and enjoying performances representing various traditions. But the most special moment for me was tasting the tamarind roll and those refreshing drinks that instantly transported me back to my school days, fairs, and outings with school friends and family in my hometown. I was happy to share stories from my childhood with my daughters, and even happier that they got to experience those same flavors and a little piece of my world growing up. Sometimes, the most beautiful experiences are not just about discovering something new, but about reliving old memories and passing a little piece of our childhood on to our children.

Sometimes, cultural experiences are more than just discovering new traditions. They bring generations together, connect us to our roots, and allow us to share a little piece of our childhood with our children. I wanted to give my daughters, aged 14 and 10, a new experience as we are still new to McKinney, Texas.
They absolutely loved exploring the vibrant flavors of Asian cuisine, discovering traditional foods and refreshing drinks, and watching cultural performances that celebrated the music, dance, and traditions of different communities. It was such a lovely opportunity for them to experience the beauty of cultural diversity through food, art, and performances.

This photo shows the three lion dancers of various colors — vibrant gold, spirited blue, and deep red — performing and commanding the stage while the drummer continuously drives the powerful rhythm; additionally, a cheerful panda clashes the cymbals along the beat, bringing motivation and happiness to the crowd. This was inspired by the centuries-old tradition of using Chinese Guardian Lions to bring good fortune and ward off evil spirits by blocking their negative energy; due to that, I made the three guardian lions the emphasis by increasing the blur on the remaining objects. In summary, this piece is supposed to represent the exact moment an ancient art form — celebrated for hundreds of years — met an American stage and audience, sharing its cultural values with the modern world.

In summary, despite the festival containing multiple nationalities and cultures, the pinwheels still turn for everyone — proving that heritage is a shared path where everyone walks through together.

Entry 39: Wearing Her Indispensable Heritage
This photo shows a lady dressed in the festive outfit of the Qiang people as she watches a performance of the lion dancers in the audience; this cultural element is crucial to her as the Qiang emrboidery carries a heritage rooted in the mountains of the western Sichuan — the bold peony headpiece representing prosperity and a flourishing life . Due to this, the festival is not just a performance she simply came to watch; it was something she wore that day.
